inc (increases)

Left leaning increase on st st. Knit up to the increase sign.  The base stitch has already been knitted with the left needle. Lift the purl loop (behind the work) from two rows under the base stitch just knitted.  It will be the first loop under your working yarn on the back of your work. Now knit the loop.

Right leaning increase on st st.  Knit up to the increase sign. With the right needle, lift the purl loop from the previous row, from under and behind the next stitch. Knit the loop. 

dec (decreases).

k2 tog This produces a dec that leans to the right on the front of your work.

skpo This produces a dec that leans to the left on the front of your work.

ssk Slip one stitch knit wise, slip the next stitch knit wise, place the left needle in both stitches from the back and knit them together.This produces a dec that leans to the left on the front of your work. This was developed by Elizabeth Zimmermann.

m1 (make one)

Make one stitch by picking up the horizontal loop before the next stitch and knitting into the back of it.

m1p (make one purl)

Make one stitch by picking up the horizontal loop before the next stitch and purling into the back of it.

RT (right twist)

A traveling stitch. more commonly referred to as a 2 stitch cable that leans  to the right

RT (using a cable needle) sl the next st to a cable needle and leave it at the back or your work.  k1, then k1   from the cable needle.

RT (without a cable needle) k2 st tog from the front, leaving the st on the left hand needle.  k the second st again and sl both st off of the left hand needle.

LT(left twist)

A traveling stitch, more commonly referred to as a 2 stitch cable that leans to the left.

LT (using a cable needle) sl the next st to a cable needle and leave it at the front of your work.  k1, then k1 from the cable needle.

LT (without a cable needle) sk the first st on the needle. k into the     back of the second st, but do not take it     off the needle. k into the front of the first st and sl both st off the needle.

C4B (cable 4 back)

sl the next 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at the back of your work. k2 sts, then k2 from the cable needle.

C4F (cable 4 front)

sl the next 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at the front of your work. k2 sts, then k2 from the cable needle.

C3F (cable 3 front)

sl next 2 sts onto a cable needle and hold at the front of your work.  k1, then k2 from the cable needle.

C3B (cable 3 back)

sl next st onto cable needle and hold at the back of your work.  k2, then k1 from cable needle.

Cr3L (cross 3 left), or
T3L (twist 3 left)

sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of your work.  p1 then k2 from the cable needle.

Cr3R (cross 3 right), or
T3R (twist 3 right)

sl next st onto cable needle and hold at back of work. k2, then p1 from cable needle.

C5B (cable 5 back)

sl next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at the back of your work, k2, then k3 sts from the cable needle.

C5F (cable 5 front)

sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at the front of your work, k3, then k2 sts from the cable needle.

Cr5L (cross 5 left), or
T5L (twist 5 left)

sl 3 st onto a cable needle and hold at the front of your work.  p2, then k3 from the cable needle.

Cr5R (cross 5 right), or
T5R (twist 5 right)

sl 2 st onto a cable needle and hold at the back of your work. k3, then p2 from the cable needle.

C6B (cable 6 back)

sl the next 3 sts onto a cable needle and hold at the back of your work. k3 sts, then k3 from the cable needle.

C6F (cable 6 front)      

sl the next 3 sts onto a cable needle and hold at the front of your work. k3 sts, then k3 from the cable needle.
